We're having a BABY!
Well, a few months ago we finally announced the big news that our little family is GROWING! Most people don't know, but we had been trying for awhile, wondering if the big news would ever come for us. We had both kind of put up shields to help ease the pain if we were told at some point that it just wasn't meant for us to be parents.
I had purchased a coffee mug a year ago that said "DAD" on it. Kyle loves coffee and I thought that might be the perfect way to tell him. Well, it sat in the back of my closet for quite some time. Every time I opened my closet and started looking around, I knew it was in there, just waiting to be opened.
The night I told him couldn't have been better. We had just watched the season finale of "New Girl" the night before, where Schmidt and Cece found out they were having a baby. So that night, I took that mug out of the closet and placed it on the counter. I told him to come in from the other room and see the new coffee mug I got him, totally playing it off like it wasn't a big deal. He opened it and I will never forget the look on his face - pure shock, disbelief and happiness! I told him we were like Schmidt and Cece. He grabbed me and swung me around the kitchen for what felt like forever. It was something I wish I would have recorded, but it's okay because I know it's something I will never forget.
Now, being the designer and planner that I am, and considering we had been waiting on this news for awhile, I wanted our announcement to be fun, cute and a little unique. I called my friend Amie and asked if she would be interested in photographing a small shoot for me. Surprise to her, it was our pregnancy reveal (and a cocktail shoot as well, but I'll post about that another day).
Ever since I saw the idea on Pinterest, I wanted to spell out "BABY" in gold foil balloons. It just caught my eye and I thought it was so cute. And that's what we did. [ Just FYI, they are NOT easy to keep from blowing all different directions - tape was definitely used ].
I didn't have much of an inspiration, other than I knew I wanted a teepee involved somehow. So I borrowed a teepee from one of my best friends, had my sister make and decorate a semi-naked cake and found a super sweet florist to supply my flowers and greenery! I had sent Kathryn of KB Flowers my inspiration board, and she completely hooked me up with beautiful flowers and greenery garland! It's funny how it definitely turned out more pink and girly than I had originally planned, but fun surprise - we are having a little girl! So it really was perfect!
The final touches were an adorable cake topper I ordered off Etsy, some fun gender reveal confetti poppers from Thimblepress and my husband's old teddy bear that my mother-in-law had saved for us to have all these years later #heartmelted. Overall, it was the perfect way for my heart to express my excitement over the fact that we're going to have a little person of our own very soon!
